| Candidates must be under thirty-five-years-old to compete. | |
| No citizenship intervenes. | |
| Candidates are usually MD, but they can be scientists, physicists, medical engineers, or physiologists, etc.; as far as their field of interest is focused into research for the cardiovascular system through the development of ultrasound technology. | |
| Candidates must submit an abstract according to the guidelines required by the Chairman of the meeting, and the abstract must be received by the organizing committee not after the deadline. | |
| The objective of the research may be clinically applied or basic and fundamental. | |
| Candidates must submit an original abstract on his/her research that has not been published or presented in another international meeting, or in one of the main congresses held in the United States, such as AHA, ACC, ASE. | |
| Candidates must be the first author and the presenter of the abstract. There may be associated authors. | |
|
Candidates must not present more
than one paper as a first author.
Previous award winners must not apply for
the DK Award in subsequent years. |
The abstracts competing for the DK Award will be selected by scientists of the scientific committee, among all the submitted abstracts reviewed and graded. The final selection may involve four to six abstracts. Finalists will receive individual notice at the time of the general decision of acceptance or rejection of the abstracts, by the organizing committee to which the selection of finalists will be forwarded. During the meeting, a special session, “the DK Award session” grouping the papers in competition, will be chaired by a panel of distinguished researchers, scientists, or clinicians representing a wide spectrum of the medical science and trends of research for cardiovascular disease and appointed by the chairman and by the scientific committee.
The criteria retained for the evaluation are the following:
| The scientific merit of the abstract. | |
| The originality and quality of the research. | |
| The presentation of the abstract. |
The decision made by the panel, with the name of the winner will be announced at the end of the session or at the closing ceremony of the meeting, according to the Chairman’s decision.
The winner will receive the award of which the amount will be decided by the ICDS President and Officers and later delivered by check from the ICDS secretarial office. An official acknowledgement consisting of a parchment paper signed by the ICDS President and ICDS officers will be sent to the winner.
Recently, several ICDS members have contributed $800 towards the next Daniel Kalmanson Award fund.
